Transforming Patients – One Experience at a Time: Designing Patient Experiences that Improve Patient Outcomes, Differentiate You from the Competition, and Improve Profits
Defining experiences are what catapult us from our current course in life to a new one, and they provide the momentum to continue along this new course long-term. Understanding the relationships between personal experiences to initiating significant life changes, and applying this knowledge in a clinical setting with patients can improve the likelihood of their achieving and sustaining healthful lifestyles.
Personal experiences, as an economic offering, are also largely untapped in the medical profession. While widely understood in many industries this topic is relatively new territory to the medical profession, but has particular relevance to the specialty of age management medicine. This presentation gives the clinician an overview of the subject of ‘designed patient experiences’, including principles for practical application to the clinical and business sides of medicine.
- Explain how behavior is influenced by life experiences
- Understand the clinical relevance of patient experiences to the work of facilitating lifestyle changes
- Understand what types of experiences are required in order for patients to initiate and sustain lifestyle changes
- Understand the clinician’s role as ‘change agent’
- Be able to implement principles of designing, delivering and guiding designed experiences for patients
