Endocrine disrupting compounds are “any exogenous substance or material that alters the function(s) of the endocrine system and consequently causes adverse health effects in an intact organism, its progeny or it (sub)population” (2). These include both man-made synthetic chemicals but also naturally occurring plant compounds. The goal of this CME/CE is to first identify and describe these compounds and to subsequently determine their effects on our Endocrine System.

Objectives

Upon completion of this workshop, the healthcare professional will be able to:

  1. Describe how endocrine disrupter compounds work.
  2. Identify what endocrine disrupter compounds are.
  3. Determine how endocrine disrupter compounds affect the endocrine system.
