Amy de la Garza, MD
Board-Certified Family and Addiction Medicine Physician; Founder, Heron Wellness
Her work centers on supporting neuroplasticity through lifestyle change, neutraceuticals, and medications as needed to reduce neuroinflammation, repair metabolic function, and restore balance across cortisol, thyroid, and reproductive hormones. Beyond abstinence, she guides patients on a wellness journey where mind, body, and spirit heal. It is only through a whole person, integrated approach that people suffering with addiction are able to build durable recovery, vibrant health, and empowered, productive lives.
She practices this model at her private practice in Salt Lake City, Heron Wellness where she has been providing care for over a decade. She has worked across the treatment continuum providing direct patient care and consultation on the incorporation of lifestyle based practices into traditional programming. She teaches addiction fellows as adjunct faculty in the University of Utah Department of Psychiatry. She is a frequent invited speaker at addiction and mental health conferences.
Board-certified in family medicine and addiction medicine and a Certified Practitioner of the Institute for Functional Medicine, she completed her fellowship at the University of Utah's Huntsman Mental Health Institute. She is the past president of the Utah Society of Addiction Medicine, and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.
