Madeline Deutsch MD, MPH

Madeline B. Deutsch, MD, MPH is an Associate Professor of Clinical Family & Community Medicine at UCSF. She is the Medical Director of UCSF Transgender Care. She is a recognized expert in transgender health who has written numerous peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters, and has lectured nationally and internationally on a range of transgender health and medicine topics. Dr. Deutsch is the President-Elect for the US Professional Association for Transgender Health (USPATH) and is the lead author for the Primary Care chapter in the upcoming 8th Revision of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care.  She is on the Editorial Boards for the journals LGBT Health and Transgender Health.  Dr. Deutsch is currently overseeing the development of a telemedicine program which will allow patients to be seen by remote computer connection, and is leading efforts at UCSF Medical Center to implement best practices for transgender patients such as the use of chosen name and pronouns.  She serves as principal or co-investigator for a number of research and capacity building projects in transgender medicine.

Dr. Deutsch received her undergraduate degree in computer science from Binghamton University – State University of New York (SUNY), her MD from Rosalind Franklin University – Chicago Medical School, completed a residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, and received an MPH in community health sciences from UCLA. Dr. Deutsch is herself transgender and is pleased to be able to work with and serve her own community.
