He will be reviewing a British article that describes the past 100 year of data that supports the benefits of T3 therapy over T4 alone. In addition to, the bias that surrounds thyroid treatment and why this information is suppressed when in fact patients feel better on T3 therapy instead of T4 alone.

Part 9- Treating T3 Deficiency, The Evidence You Need

This course is a continuation of the same theme proving high dose replacement T3 does not cause harm nor appears to be a cardiovascular risk.  In this course, we will review the successful use of thyroid hormone in high doses.  Dr. Rouzier does not advocate doing this, whereas the purpose is to provide credence and confidence that our usual prescription of thyroid hormone does not cause any adverse CVD harm.

Part 8- Treating T3 Deficiency, The Evidence You Need

During this month’s webinar, Dr. Rouzier discusses how T3 is beneficial and how high dose T3 is more preferred by patients.  We review the literature that demonstrates no harm in high dose replacement of thyroid hormone.  There is a tremendous amount of literature that supports giving high dose T3 and no problems with sudden cardiac death, a-fib, osteoporosis fractures, or strokes.

Part 7- Treating T3 Deficiency, The Evidence You Need

Dr. Rouzier discusses the importance of utilizing research that proves harm of thyroid hormone and TSH suppression, needs to come from an outcome study (RCT of Grade A evidence) not baseline observational studies (in Graves’ Disease) that prove nothing.  In addition, Dr. Rouzier reviews the epidemiology studies that show harm in hyperthyroidism from Graves Disease and not exogenous thyroid replacement.  He stresses the importance of not associating suppressed TSH levels with the same autoimmune issues found with Graves Disease.

Dr. Rouzier covers the poor research articles that confuse many physicians into not prescribing thyroid.  In order to understand the opposition, you need to understand the flawed research and thinking from the experts.  Dr. Rouzier explains how Graves Disease has impacted the study findings and the harm that occurs when subclinical hypothyroidism goes untreated.

Part 4- Treating T3 Deficiency, The Evidence You Need

During this month’s webinar, Dr. Rouzier will be reviewing the controversial literature that does not recommend giving thyroid hormone to patients with SCH when their TSH is less than 20.  Why the authors came to this conclusion and how these guidelines can impact the quality of life for many patients.  Some current research studies support giving DTE to alleviate symptoms and decrease C-IMT along with improved lipid profiles for these patients.  Dr. Rouzier will also be discussing how T3 can be beneficial in improving mood and energy levels for depressed patients.

Part 3- Treating T3 Deficiency, The Evidence You Need

Dr. Rouzier does a literature review of how to treat patients after a thyroidectomy and the best treatment options for these patients.  How these patients are not able to raise Free T3 levels post-surgery and treating with T4 alone does not improve symptoms. In addition, we will be discussing some of the problems of why some patients are not able to achieve a therapeutic level of Free T3.  By treating patients with DTE, patient symptoms are reduced and improved compared to T4 and T4/T3 combinations therapies.

BHRT from an OB/GYN’s Perspective

If you are like many physicians who have heard about bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) you probably have many questions. Is it safe? Is there a market for it? Will it help my patients? APIM offers advanced training in BHRT to help guide you through all of these questions and more, but if you’re wondering whether BHRT is worth adding to your practice, it can be helpful to hear from someone who has walked in the same shoes as you–a provider who understands the questions and concerns you have because they had the same ones. At a recent event, Malaika Woods, MD, MPH, and Board Certified OB/GYN who specializes in functional and obesity medicine gave an excellent presentation on this very subject matter as presented by APIM. Her focus: to highlight the top questions, concerns, and benefits of BHRT you have as a provider and how to translate APIM’s BHRT training into small, digestible pieces that patients will understand.

(Part 7) Testosterone for Men: What You Need to Master Before Prescribing Testosterone

A Note From Neal:

I will present all the studies and literature that you should be aware of and have in your library that demonstrate reduction in CVD, prevention and reversal of diabetes, with the resultant reduction in CVD mortality which statins lack. I provide these papers to all patients with some CVD risk. I also provide these studies for peers or patients that wish to provide them to their PMDs should there ever be an issue with patients or PMDs. All physicians should be aware of this data and information, but I understand that there is no venue for physicians to be introduced to this information unless they are lucky enough to cross the path of WLM. It is my endeavor to bridge this gap by patiently and empathically providing this literature to my peers as well as my patients that want to appreciate what I am accomplishing by optimizing their hormones. Many peers may reject it, but they are rejecting science.

In addition to providing the literature and papers for you to download, I also provide commentary and discussion that helps you better understand the controversies, how to navigate through them, and become confident in your prescribing. Finally, and unfortunately, I will use the medical literature that I have used to defend several cases. The insight and verbiage that I use for litigation defense will be interspersed in the webinar. I actually enjoy countering plaintiff’s attorneys and their experts that do not know the literature or have command of the science that demonstrate safety and efficacy of testosterone. However, you must document and that is the one issue where Practitioners fall short. I will include my advice on documentation that must be included in every chart of every patient that you treat. Since most of us utilize testosterone for off-label use, that discussion should be included.

During this webinar Dr. Rouzier will review the studies that address the benefits of testosterone replacement therapy in hypogonadism and the overall health issues that are improved. Even patients with a history of CVD can benefit from TRT as evidenced by a recent long-term study, supporting no increased risk with testosterone administration. Dr. Rouzier will summarize how providing research studies to support TRT to patients is practicing defensive medicine and protecting your practice from litigation by educating your patients.
